Columbia National was founded in 1939 by the late James W. Rouse, the pioneer behind The Rouse Company. Under his leadership, The Rouse Company was responsible for some of the largest and most innovative suburban development and urban redevelopment projects in the U.S. What most people don't know is that Mr. Rouse was a mortgage banker before he was a developer. For to-be-built apartments, the Company's status as a HUD approved mortgagee ("MAP Lender") enables us to provide construction/permanent financing for new apartment communities nationwide on the most favorable terms available. Many of our life insurance company relationships also offer construction/permanent loan packages for to-be-built projects. We service the majority of the loans we originate, such that our clients enjoy uninterrupted service and a primary point of contact for the life of their loan. Columbia National services approximately $3.6 billion of its own loan originations.
